Game, Squap and match: Squap wins the Suisse Toy Award 2010!

TA10_WINNER_218x328 (JPG)On Wednesday, September 29th 2010, it was buzzing with excitement at “Suisse Toy” in Bern:

Who’s going to win the Suisse Toy Award 2010? That was the big question at Switzerland’s biggest toy fair.

And the winner is … Squap!

This fun ball game of skill had seen off the competition in the Learning & Creativity category.

Winning and finalist toys are on show in Hall 220 at the fair, at the exhibitors’ stands ready to be tried out.

What does a seven-year-old girl want for her birthday? What’s the latest must-have for a four-year-old boy? Nobody knows that better than the children themselves. So for the fourth time, the Swiss Toy Association (SVS) had invited all the country’s children to act as jurors to judge the toys.

The children’s response set a new record this year: 15,256 of them, from every corner of Switzerland, joined in to choose their favorite toys. The 21 products – the top three from each category – nominated for the Swiss toy prize were put through their paces at the end of July: children in two shopping malls, one in Zurich and the other in Geneva, were given a whole day to try out and judge the toys.

It’s no surprise to find that Simba Toys’ Squap was highly scored by kids in the Learning & Creativity category, seeing that it’s the ultimate game of skill for children and adults, both in and out of doors. You snap the Squap shut to catch the ball: Simba Toys has developed a completely new ball game for children aged 8+, teens, and adults. You buckle the Squap bat onto your hand, and open the bat in order to throw the ball to your partner; you catch the ball by snapping the bat shut at exactly the right moment. You can play Squap by yourself against a wall, or between two people, or in a group.

Suisse Toy Award
The Suisse Toy Award is Switzerland’s top prize, and exhibitors worldwide consider it to be the consumer award for toys. The Swiss Toy Association introduced the award at the “Suisse Toy”, the country’s public toy fair, in 2007.

The contenders for the Suisse Toy Award are judged by the people who actually play with them: by the kids. A public invitation goes out to children to act as jurors, and the toys are assessed completely independent of any prescribed criteria.
